Growing up, I was super close with one of my older cousins. Our age gap was just big enough for me to absolutely idolize her, but not so big that she was irrelevant. Now she has kids of her own and it’s super important to me to be a great role model to them. So this weekend, L and I flew up to Washington, D.C. for a visit. I hadn’t been to our nation’s capital since I was in middle school and L had never been so it was great exploring the city!
We flew in early on Saturday and caught up with one of L’s college roommates. He brought us to his favorite edgy Mexican restaurant where we quickly ate ourselves into a food coma. Following lunch, we met up with my cousin, her husband, and their two kids. We headed over to their house to meet their pups and hang a bit before dinner at an amazing sushi restaurant (that’s how you can tell we’re related!).
We visited lots of local landmarks – including the National Mall, Washington Monument, Lincoln Monument, the Air and Space Smithsonian Museum, US Capitol Building, Union Station, and the World War II and Vietnam War Memorial. It was an incredible experience – sometimes living off in a relatively new city like Atlanta it’s easy to forget the magnitude and extensive history of our great nation!
Monday came far too quick – after dropping the kids off at school, L and I adventured through public transportation to make our way to Washington Dulles for the ride home. It was great to see my family and explore a new city – I can’t wait for our next adventure!
Also, shout out to LB for watching our precious Stormy!
