Day 187-188: Cortaca New York

As per any incredibly successful weekend, I have next to no pictures of all of us but about a million amazing memories. This weekend was nothing short of perfect, even if it did make me feel really old. My old roomie Rach, who was actually one of my very first friends in college pulled up a Timehop that was from six years ago. Now we all have legit jobs and know how to cook more than just bagel bites.

Day 187
Pre-gaming in NYC with two of my old roommates

On Saturday, our morning started bright and early. Kickoff for Cortaca was a noon, so we started with bagels, mimosas, and giant coffees from Starbucks. We made it to the venue fashionable late (but well fed/drank and ready to party). It was a complete blast from the past – I saw some of my friends from my track years, old classmates, and friends from my freshman dorm. The environment as a whole was so much fun – I didn’t even notice that our football team lost. I made some new friends (including a very nice lady behind me at the Chipotle line that proofread my text messages for me) and caught up with old ones. Overall, super successful.

Day 187
Picture at Cortaca with one of my best friends from my track and field days!

Since we were celebrating our team, I tossed one of my college tees that I usually reserve for sleeping. I stuck with the sporty-chic/easy to get around while drunk look and put on my fave Sperry sneakers!

On Sunday we dragged ourselves out of bed to grab breakfast and talk a stroll through Central Park. It was a picture perfect morning – the temperatures were in the high 50s and the sun was shining. It didn’t hurt that Starbucks launched their winter drinks menu recently (hello Peppermint mocha!). The morning ended way too quick and before I knew it I was off to Newark to catch a flight back to Atlanta. Thank goodness for my melatonin gummies – I passed out through the entire flight.

My dress is a birthday present from L’s mom. While I was in NYC I got really into the choker trend – Atlanta isn’t quite there yet! I borrowed this necklace from my friend Rach, but I’m looking forward to getting my own when I get back home!

Day 186: Pre-Cortaca

As some of you know, I went to a small(ish) liberal arts school in upstate New York. Our biggest claim to fame to Cortaca – our yearly rivalry game against SUNY Cortland. Now up in the northeast, we don’t celebrate college football they way they do down here with all day tailgating and celebrations. For us, Cortaca is the one time a year when we wake up bright and early for kegs & eggs, put on seventeen sweatshirts (it is upstate NY in November after all), and “watch” football. I had to put “watch” in quotes because I think comparing how we watch the game versus how these southerners watch football is a bit misleading. Our version of ‘watching’ involves chanting back and forth about how neither of our schools actually have a real mascot and then getting bored with the football aspect mid-game and leaving to get pizza.

Anyways, this weekend I’m headed off to NYC to hang out with some of my old college roommates to celebrate Cortaca in the city! My flight leaves Atlanta tonight at 8pm and I’ve spent all day trying REALLY hard to get work done. So far I’ve color-coded my research… using crayons. The work day needs to be over!

Onto my outfit! L kept teasing me that this cardigan makes me look like a bull fighter. So I couldn’t resist this silly picture below. In all seriousness, I always fly with a cardigan. I feel like planes can go from frigid to sauna-status in less than a minute, so I like to be prepared. Speaking of which, I’m actually moderately prepared for this trip because I’m actually already packed. This is a first.
