Day 339: Building a Table

Thank goodness I’m working from home today – I’m still reeling from yesterday’s news. I still feel like everything’s falling at once, and I’m just struggling to keep up. I’m trying to stay positive, but I am still in the utter shock phase, trying to figure out my next steps. With the new structure, a lot of what I was working on was taken off my plate, so today is a surprisingly light day. I needed to feel productive and worthwhile, so I built a table today. It was one of those accomplishments I needed. Plus if I figured out those stick figure directions, I have faith that I can figure anything out.

Since I didn’t need to leave the house, I stay in comfortable clothes all day. Plus I have to admit, building the table was actually super strenuous. Who would have thought?!

Day 338: Company Reorg

Today started out like any other work day: buzzing through emails, analyzing campaign trends, spending too much time thinking about lunch. That is until my boss put a last minute team meeting on our calendars at noon. Twenty minutes later, I was crushed. We were reorging our team. Change is always scary and uncomfortable, but that’s not the part that’s bothering me. As part of the new structure, I’ll be giving up some of my favorite parts of my job, including the high visibility from senior leadership that I enjoyed. Worst of all, my manager changed. I will now report into the lady I mentioned yesterday who genuinely believes millennials have nothing to offer.

I’m currently frustrated and devastated, but I’m so lucky I have the best friends (and that I still have a job). After I told L and LB, they were waiting (along with PJ) when I got home with good wine and a home-cooked meal. We sat on our porch for a long time, laughing, talking, and listening to music.

Sound off: any career advice?

Day 337: Business Dinner

This morning was a whirlwind – plus I completely forgot that our corporate partners were coming down from Philly for afternoon meetings! I scrambled to put together the guest list and reservation for our dinner. Although our headquarters friends are always a lot of fun, some of my own counterparts at the division can be quite frustrating. There’s one lady in particular who thinks that millennials are the root of all evil. She never misses an opportunity to talk about how lazy, entitled, dim my generation is – it drives me crazy! She was actually part of the inspiration behind the post I wrote about millennials! At least the wine will be plentiful and the food will be good at tonight’s dinner!

These pants are basically professional yoga pants, so they were perfect to ease back into my work week!

Sound off: any generational bias that you deal with at work?

Day 319: Early Morning, Early Night

My day started incredibly early, so I guess it’s going to end pretty early as well! Today my plans for my Q3 marketing program were due – so my morning started at 3am. I don’t know why I’m so weird but I cannot stay up late to save my life; instead I always end up getting up super early instead. Anyways, my prep went great and my meetings went even better. Now I can’t wait to be lame and go to bed super early. The glorious life of a twenty-something.

Today comfort was paramount. I took advantage of casual Friday with my black jeans and paired it with a faux blazer that’s essentially a sweatshirt.

Sound off: Are you a night owl or early riser?

Day 316: Embarrassing Clothing Repeat

More meetings and more potential vendors! Like I mentioned yesterday, I love meeting with different agencies because they bring such a different perspective to the table. However, it’s getting a little tough to balance my actual job with my meetings. It’s going to be a late night!

This is going to be one of those embarrassing moments. I slept in this morning and was in a super rush to get dressed. I totally grabbed the pants I wore yesterday and just mixed up the top. At least this challenge is not repeating the entire outfit!

Day 315: Recovery and Wine

I’m pleasantly surprised at how ‘not’ sore I am, but I’m totally going to take this week off! Today at the office, I had a couple of meetings – one with a new agency I’m hoping to bring on-board! It’s always so much fun to get new ideas into the mix!

After work, I headed out to a cute new wine and tapas bar with LB and one of my new friends in our development. (And if you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know how desperate I was to make friends in our development!). Anyways, it was great to relax with wine and good conversation!

My boss is notorious for her all-black outfits, so today I followed suit! Plus all black on a Monday –  just feels fitting.

Day 298: After Hours Work Party

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I took over new responsibilities at my company. My friend and co-worker who previously had the role offered to teach me everything she knows about the position – so I brought the pizza and wine and she brought the knowledge. We spent the night reviewing all of documents that I’ll be taking over and going through the contacts I’ll need. Overall a super successful and productive night!

Casual Friday for the win! I matched a pair of crop jeans with my favorite comfortable flats and a New England classic sweater. My boss totally thought that it was a crawfish on my shirt (oh Southerners)!
