Day 293: Don’t Bring Drunk Girls to Marshall’s

Some days you just need bottomless mimosas and a girl’s day. I know I’ve mentioned this half a million times, but thank goodness I have LB here. This girl has been here through thick and thin (and too many wine bottles to count).  Between her exam and me just being busy, we haven’t had an opportunity in WAY too long to catch up and enjoy a glass (or four? I lost count). L was coming back from his ski weekend and foolishly decided to join us – although I was pleased! LB and I decided that all we wanted to do was go to Marshall’s – which gave L flashbacks to the time on my 22nd birthday where I wanted to go to Barnes & Nobles. I was politely asked to leave that day. Anyways, so we went to Marshall’s. LB bought elephant sheets (because why not??) and I unsuccessfully tried to convince L that we needed a new mirror. And sheets. And dog toys.  Once LB and I sobered up at bit at home while watching Jurassic Park (LB’s favorite movie), L told us that he would never go to Marshall’s with two drunk girls again and I don’t really blame him.

Today it was sunny out. Unfortunately that did not mean warm and I was actually pretty freezing in this outfit. I’ve had this crop top for a while, but always been too shy to wear it. With all the running and barre I’ve done lately, I finally had the confidence to give it a go!

Sound off: have you ever been kicked out of anywhere interesting?

Day 281: Valentine’s Dates

Ugh these early morning flights are killer! My flight left at 7:25am, so I was up way too early to head over to the airport! Today I’m heading up to Philadelphia for my favorite quarterly meeting. At my company, I work in one of three division offices. Once a quarter we meet up with the other two divisions to talk through best practices, learnings, and strategy. It’s great to actually match faces with phone voices too!

This quarter, one of our (male) co-workers accidentally set our meeting for Valentine’s Day! It’s funny – all of the women who attended said their male significant others didn’t mind at all (L included), but the men leaving behind their women were a different story!

After an amazing dinner at a Cuban place and a few mojitos, I’m pretty excited to hit the sack! Although this combination was cute and warm, I can’t wait to change into my PJs.

Sound off: do you ever travel for work?

Day 273: Showing off ATL

This morning the roads were empty during my morning commute through a somber Atlanta. I recovered quickly (#bandwagonfan), but a lot of my co-workers were still super upset. I’ve seen L recover from the Panther’s loss last year, so I’m sympathetic.

On the plus side, one of my college roommates is in Atlanta for the night and I’m so excited to see him! For the past four years, he’s worked crazy hours all over the world, but is settling down to solidify his next step. I haven’t even seen him in three years! We ended up heading over to Ponce City Market, an Atlanta stopping and restaurant depot, for dinner, drinks, and good conversation. And then we headed home for even more drinks. I’m going to regret this tomorrow on my morning run…

The weather was warm this morning, so I was in the mood for a dress. During this challenge, wearing dresses has been the most difficult because they’re so easy to repeat! To keep this one fresh, I paired it with a fun, bright belt

Day 271: Confusing Holiday Party

What an awesome, jam-packed Saturday! I kicked off my morning with 11 miles as part of my half-marathon training group. Even though I’m lightyears from where I used to be, I’m starting to feel really good about my running for the first time in a while. I can’t wait to see what my half marathon in March brings! After my morning run, I headed over to the barn for some much needed horse time. I’ve been unable to ride for a while since my weekends have been so jam-packed, but it was great to get back into the saddle.

Tonight we’re headed to L’s work ‘holiday’ party that’s been pushed a few times due to the ‘snow’ in Atlanta. It’s always fun to get dressed up and meet the folks L talks about at work. Last year they had a casino-themed party that was a lot of fun – especially when I beat L in poker. This year the party is apparently ‘interactive’ themed, so I have no idea what to expect. Imagine my surprise when we walked in on a ‘murder mystery’ theme that involved six of the hundred people at the event. At least the bar was flowing!

This dress was a hand-me-down that never quite fit me right. This past year, I finally bit the bullet and had it altered – boy, am I glad I did! It’s now my favorite cocktail dress! Someone needs to invite me to a wedding or L needs to take me out to dinner STAT.

Sound off: What’s your best company holiday story?

Day 268: New Job!

Last week I wrote a joking post on how to make your boss love you – I guess it worked! I was asked to take over the strategic planning for digital and social efforts for my company (in addition to the direct marketing efforts I already manage). It’s funny; just the other week I felt like I finally knew my job down pat. Now I get to start all over! I’m super excited about the change, but definitely nervous. I guess you’d think that a millennial would know the in’s-and-out’s of the online space, but I’m quickly learning there’s so much more than meets the eye. Here’s to a busy few months while I figure all this out!

Last week one of my coworkers wore a monochromatic navy outfit that I was so in love with, I copied it! Both the dress and the cardigan were additions to my closet after my challenge started (birthday/Christmas presents). Thank goodness, this color is so much fun!

Sound off: Any advice for starting a new role?

Day 266: Getting So Close!

I just realized today that I have LESS THAN 100 DAYS LEFT! I know the all-caps plus the exclamation point makes it seem like I’m yelling. That’s because I kinda actually am yelling. I can’t believe that I’m in the homestretch of this project – I’m starting to day dream about sniffing new clothes in the store and frolicking through websites to find some new digs. Yes, I sound like an addict. But it’s okay because it’s Monday and I need something to look forward to.

This dress felt a little Memorial Day/church outfit, so I needed some dark color and casual shoes to bring it back to workplace ready. It was a long day at work, so I loved that this dress was comfortable and flowy!

Sound off: where’s your favorite place to shop?

Dress: LeTote (AVA Textured Knit Dress) retails for $90 (similar, similar)

Day 238: Cake Testing!

Today we are wedding cake testing in Asheville, which is conveniently close to our wedding venue in Lake Lure, North Carolina. I promised L that the cake could be his domain, so he picked out a potential baker and we’re headed to talk and taste along with PJ, his best man. We strolled in with zero ideas or perimeters, excited to eat our way into a sugar coma. Waynette of Sweet Promises Bakery was absolutely amazing. We started off looking through a HUGE book with all of her previous  cakes and settled on a three-tier cake – the rest of the cake deets, I’ll reveal after the wedding. I love surprises, which is ironic because I hate keep secrets. So we’ll see how this goes!

Ironically, this is the dress that L proposed to me in, so it seems fitting that I wear it to our wedding cake tasting! It’s still a little chilly up here in the mountains, so I paired it with this floral cardigan. As an added bonus, I got to wear a regular bra because of the cardigan. Yes, I’m lazy and yes, I hate strapless bras.

Sound off: What’s the best wedding cake you’ve ever had?
