Day 133-134: Travel & First Two Days at Disney

L and I were ambitious in our travel. We decided to get up at 5am to beat traffic on our six and a half hour journey to Orlando. We have a little deal: whenever we travel in the car more than a couple of hours we always get Starbucks coffee (which is a big deal for my frugal L!). When we embarked on our journey, we wanted to get a few hours outside the city… but we ended up also being a few hours away from the closest Starbucks. Cue us eating at an awkward time after being awake for hours.

We made it to Disney around noon, after I made L stop at a Florida Welcome Center to see the 14 foot advertised gator! Spoiler alert, it was fake and stuffed. Hours in the car make me delusional.

We stayed at Old Key West Resort, so we could have plenty of space for our group (L’s parents, his brother and husband, and us!). Once we met up with everyone, we quickly mobilized and made our way to Animal Kingdom!

Animal Kingdom - Day 133We kicked off our trip by having trouble with our Magic Bands, but it didn’t slow us down too much! We went right away to our Fast Pass selection: The Kilimanjaro Safaris! The ride brought us through ‘the jungle’ where we saw animals in their ‘natural’ habitat. It was a great way to kick off our vacation and remind us we weren’t in Atlanta anymore!

Disney Everest - Day 133

From there we made our way to the first thrill ride: Expedition Everest. The ride was great with its unexpected twists and turns in the dark. From there we made our way over to the Primeval Whirl. With it’s loud noises and crazy turns, we couldn’t help but laugh through the whole ride.

Unfortunately, we were only at Animal Kingdom for a couple of hours when the rain started to pour down. We waited in a little cafe for an hour, but then decided to make a run for it! We ended up soaked on the bus ride home, but it was still a great way to kick off our vacation!

Day 133

For our second day, we wanted to stop by both Magic Kingdom and Epcot. From the get-go, it was clear that Magic Kingdom truly was the busiest park! Lucky for us, we had a FastPass at Space Mountain to kick off the morning. It’s one of my favorite rides – it’s so incredible how little it’s changed in the past ten years, but it’s still so much fun!

Splash Mountain - Day 134

We went to a couple of my favorites like Splash Mountain and Pirates of the Caribbean. We also tried up some new ones like Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor (which was surprisingly funny), Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress (try having this song stuck in your head all day), and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Rangers, which quickly became Levi’s favorite!

Today we clocked over ten miles walking today, we were exhausted! For dinner we went to Coral Reef Restaurant in Epcot. We were all so tired that we felt like zombies through dinner. Note to self, don’t book an 8:30pm dinner when you start at the parks at 8am!

While my outfit today was a little bland, my shoes were super comfortable for walking through the parks. Plus the lobster print is super fun!
